What Are Tags?

Group different brand name variations into one to get accurate, combined statistics

Written by Urszula Kucińska

AI models don't always use the same name for a brand. One model might mention "Brandwatch" while another refers to "Brandwatch Consumer Research." In Chatbeat, these show up as two separate brands with separate statistics. If you're tracking a competitor (or even your own brand) that appears under multiple names, you're seeing fragmented data. Tags solve this by letting you merge those variations into a single entity so that all their statistics are combined.

Where to Find Tags

You can find the Tags tab in the left sidebar of your project, below Sources and Context.

How to Create a Tag

Click Add new tag to open the tag creation modal. You'll need to fill in two fields.

Tags label is the name you want to use for the combined brand. This is how it will appear across your project.

Keywords is where you select the brand name variations you want to group together. Use the searchable dropdown to find and check all the names that should be merged under this tag.

Click Add tag and you're done. The tag will appear in your Tags list along with the keywords it groups together.

How to Use a Tag

Once a tag is created, it becomes available in the brand dropdown in the top right corner of your project's Overview. Tags are marked with a # symbol so you can easily distinguish them from regular brand names. Select the tag and the entire Overview will display combined statistics for all the brand name variations you grouped together.

When Is This Useful?

The most common scenario is when a competitor (or your own brand) has a parent company name and a product name that AI models use interchangeably. Without a tag, you'd have to check each variation separately and add the numbers up manually. With a tag, Chatbeat does this automatically and you get a single, accurate picture of that brand's real AI visibility.
