Search Volume

Understanding how Search Volume helps you prioritize the right prompts

Written by Urszula Kucińska

Let's say you've just set up your Chatbeat project with 30 prompts. Your brand shows up on some of them, is missing from others, and you're wondering: where do I start? That's exactly what Search Volume is for.

Search Volume estimates the number of monthly searches for a particular key question or prompt. You can find it in the Key Prompts table, displayed in the rightmost column next to each prompt.

How Does It Work?

When you add a prompt to your project, whether from the suggested list or typed in manually, Chatbeat translates it into a relevant keyword phrase, checks its popularity in traditional search engines, and adjusts the numbers to better reflect the realities of how people use LLMs.

Why estimates? Because no AI model, not ChatGPT, not Gemini, not Perplexity, none of them, shares actual query data with anyone. There is simply no public information on what users are searching for inside AI chatbots. Traditional search volume, adjusted for the AI context, is the best available proxy, and a question asked frequently on Google is very likely asked frequently on AI models too.

Why Does It Matter?

Not all prompts carry equal weight. If your brand ranks well on a prompt with a Search Volume of 10,000, that position is far more impactful than ranking first on a prompt that only gets 200 searches a month. Search Volume helps you answer a simple question: where should I focus my attention?

Sort the Key Prompts table by Search Volume (highest first) and look at where your brand's position is weak. These are your biggest opportunities. Pair this with Share of Voice data to get a complete picture of your brand's visibility in the conversations that matter most.

Keep in mind that lower Search Volume prompts can still be valuable if they signal strong purchase intent. For example, "What are Meltwater alternatives?" (1,480 searches) targets users actively looking to switch providers.

What About Low Search Volume Prompts?

Some of your prompts might show a Search Volume below 100. Does that mean they're not worth tracking? Not at all. If a prompt is strategically important to your business, track it regardless of its volume. Maybe it's a question your sales team hears from prospects all the time, or a niche use case that perfectly describes your product's unique value.

Your business goals always come first. Search Volume helps you decide where to invest extra effort, but it should never be the reason you stop monitoring a prompt that matters to you.
